If it’s time for the family to move, you’re probably considering a fresh coat of paint before putting the house on the market. That would probably be a wise idea to maximize the chances of getting an offer on your home. But did you know that a specific color can actually increase the value of your home? According to a zillow analysis, this color is statistically more likely to generate an offer, and not only that, but to generate a higher bid.

So what is this magical color? We’re glad you asked.

It's Blue

This should probably be a no brainer, but listen close. If you’ve read our article for color moods, you’ll know that blue has a soothing tone, which can be a great mood setter - but did you know that homes with a lot of blue accents can sell for an average of $5,440 more than expected? There’s a couple of things that add up to make this number.

The Door

Front doors that are painted light blue or grey can sell for $1,514 more. The psychology behind this is that a pop of color in a home will often give the impression that the home is cared for, and may have other desirable features.

The Kitchen

Homes with blue kitchens are often found to sell for $1,809 over asking price. Reds and yellows can be great for the dining room, but it seems that blue is best for the kitchen.

The Living Room

To accent the blue kitchen and bathrooms, it seems that the best option to paint a living room is brown, or a light beige. Anything that’s oatmeal colored here can increase the selling price by up to $1,926.

What Not To Do

Homes with darker color schemes can actually work to deter buyers. Terracotta walled dining rooms sold for about $2,000 less than expected - and homes with plain white bathrooms sold for $4,035 below similar homes.
